Procrastination

Procrastination
It is normal for every one to feel like not working.  As the matter of fact it is human nature to prefer comfort and enjoyment over working.  For this reason, it is normal when one feels like waiting to do a certain task.  Nonetheless, what happen is that one would run out of time or not fulfilling a certain task to one’s maximum effort.  This is called procrastination, which is one of the main reasons why some people fail to achieve their task.  As a college student, it is very easy to get distracted by one’s surrounding.
As a college student, there are many factors that distract me from attempting to study for exam or complete a homework assignment.  This includes watching television, sport games, hangout with friends, texting, and instant messaging.  From CLS 105 class, there are many anti procrastination strategies that help me concentrate more which include admitting the consequences and time waster.
The first strategy is called admitting the consequence, which allows myself to see what the consequences of not working, is going to be.  By identifying my procrastination, I am able to understand and eventually eliminate it.  Shown below is my “admitting the consequence”. It is obvious that admitting the consequence is an excellent strategy that helps me concentrate and focus more on a particular assignment.  I was not only able to identify my procrastination but also see the consequences.  By seeing the consequences, it helps me remind myself not to procrastinate in order to do well on the next assignment after I suffer from getting bad grade from the previous assignment.

Tasks
Consequences
Rating
MAT 284 online homework
Not having enough time to complete the particular online homework
Homework grade is 8% of overall grade, therefore not doing homework will take away a lot of points
ENL 213 practice essay
Not doing well on and get bad grade
The professor provide feedback/reflection on the practice essay, by not doing well on the practice essay it is difficult to do well on real paper
PSY 205 in class quiz
Not doing well on the quiz
Although the in class quiz is only an extra credit, it still helps bump the grade up when the test result is on the borderline.

Time waster is another anti procrastination tool that works really well.  The time wasters are things that avoid one from having a certain task done.  The time waster help user identify the task that is being avoided.  The left column is the list of my time waster while the right column describes the task that I am avoiding.  Shown below is my time waster.  From this strategy, I was able to identify what is interfering with homework time.  Therefore I was able to illuminate and concentrate more.  I would like to encourage every students to try these strategies as it help user to not only identify procrastination but also help them understand and illuminate them as well.
