Ranking priorities is designed for students who need help with organization. The ranking priorities put each type of tasks in different categories in rank from A-C in order the order of importance. Therefore, by separating each task in different categories, students can prioritize which task is more important and give those task immediate attentions. The ranking priorities is a perfect problem solving strategy for college students because they are distracted quite easily by the environment such as sport events, working out, partying, and hangout with friends. Furthermore, with over six classes per semester and different style of assignments and workloads from each course, college student should be able to identify tasks that are more important to become successful.
I am one of those students who get distracted easily as living in dormitory provides so much freedom. I can go to mall, hangout with friends, or working out with my floor mates who live literally a few meters away from me which is why concentrating one my task without thinking of chilling with my friends can be somewhat difficult. In addition, in this semester, although I am only taking 13 credits including (MAT 284, ENL 213, PSY 205, CLS 105, and PED 276) almost all the classes have different styles of assessments, which is why I must prioritize which assignment must be done first. Not only that, sometimes tests and paper are due on the same day which make it difficult to do well on both, nonetheless with the ranking priorities technique, with the due dates and to do list, I am able to see when the assignments are due and what to do before hand. This allows myself to prepare and do well in the upcoming tasks.
I started using ranking priorities last Monday (2/14/2011), which I believe, is such a perfect timing because it is the week that I am assigned with most tests, quizzes, and papers. Therefore, I took advantage of the ranking priorities technique to adjust and prioritize which task is the most important. Firstly, after completing my ranking priorities I knew right away that my most important tasks of the week are MAT 284 test, PSY 205 test, and MAT 284 homework. Knowing in mind that the MAT 284 homework is due on Tuesday night, I did not hesitate and began doing my MAT 284 homework first. This is because it is a great way to review for the test and it also counts as 8% of my overall grade. Next, after I am done with MAT 284 homework, I continued to study for the Math test until the rest Monday night. Secondly, as for PSY 205 exam, I have been using the Target planner (demonstrated in my first blog) to plan my study in which up until Tuesday, I have already went every chapter that will be on the test. Therefore, I spend my Tuesday studying briefly for my MAT 284 and PSY 205 test.
Thirdly, my next most important task is the faculty interview project for CLS 105 class. With the ranking priority, I am aware of the due date (Monday 21st) and started to interview all my professors where my entire interviews are completed before Friday. I plan to spend the weekend to complete my faculty interview project. In addition, I have already received an excellent feedback from using the Ranking Priorities as I received 92% on my PSY 205 exam. I will find out how I do on my MAT 284 exam on Tuesday and hope that I did well also. Apart from that, there are many assignments that will be due the following week that are listed on my ranking priorities such as Faculty interview project and every homework from my CLS 105 and ENL 213 classes.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied from using Ranking strategies because it does not only inform me which assignments is more important but also the due dates and to do list. This gives me more time to complete each assignment as I know ahead of time the date and time that the assignment will be due. I suggest this strategy for every college students who have difficulty concentrating and identifying the most important tasks. I will continue to use all strategies I learn from my CLS 105 class and hope that I will fulfill my academic goal of achieving 3.5 or above.
